AN annual insight into the Sport of Kings will go ahead this spring after missing a year due to the foot-and-mouth crisis.

Middleham's Open Day was cancelled at the height of the epidemic, last April, costing the Dales community thousands in lost revenue.

However, racing stables dotted around the North Yorkshire market town are backing this year's programme.

At least 15 will be welcoming visitors on Good Friday, March 29, while a country fair, trade stands and market will be open on the market place.

Highlights include an exhibition by renowned sculptor, Jody Boyt, at James Bethell's stables and a visit to Patrick Haslam's stables by Adrian Maguire, the seventh jockey to ride 1,000 winners.

Demonstrations are also planned at the equine pools at Kingsley House Stables and Manor House stud.

Details of the programme are available from Middleham Key Centre on (01969) 624502.
