Glenn Naylor continued his comeback from a year on the sidelines while Darlington gave a run-out to three triallists during their reserve 2-0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers last night.
Chester-le-Street midfielder Steve Leadbitter, forward John Ryan and Cameroon-born striker forward Bernard Collignon all played, but only one impressed as Quakers succumbed to two goals in the last ten minutes.
Leadbitter's appearance was short but sweet as he limped off with an injury after just ten minutes but did enough to impress.
Taylor was pleased with Leadbitter who also played in Quakers' reserve game at York City last month.
He said: "He gets up and down and he's got good skills, he did really well and I will ask him to come back for pre-season. He was the best player on the pitch at York."
Cameroon-born Collignon certainly made an impression, but unfortunately it wasn't his football talent which caught the eye, moreover his eye-catching bright pink gloves.
Taylor admitted Collignon, who was substituted at half-time, was not the answer to his team's problems and neither, said Taylor, was Ryan. "Collignon's a definite no-no straightaway because it looks as though he can't play with anybody.
"I said I'd give Ryan a game because he got injured in the last reserve game he had here but I won't ask him to come back.
"His agent said he'd been on trial at Liverpool but I can't see that myself - Liverpool Women team more like!"
After successfully coming through an hour Naylor is in contention for Saturday's game at former club York on Saturday while the chances of Richard Hodgson and Gary Pearson are both 50-50.
Keeper Andrew Grainger was able to play last night as he passed a fitness test on his hip. Current number one Keith Finch was on standby to play, and had he been injured last night Neil Maddison would've played in goal at York as Quakers have no other fit keepers at the club.
Darlington: Grainger; Brumwell, Smith, Reed, McGurk; Rundle, Convery, Leadbitter (Campbell 10), Ryan; Naylor (Ellenden 60), Collignon (Keltie 46). Subs not used: Thompson, Hughes.
Darlington's postponed home clash with Plymouth has been rearranged for Monday, April 15 which will be two days after Quakers' last game of the season at Feethams.
The Monday date was agreed as Argyle visit Carlisle two days beforehand so will be able to stay in the region in between games.
Quakers host Scunthorpe on the previous Saturday and finish the season with a game at Oxford United's Kassam Stadium which they moved into at the beginning of the season.
Had Darlington's own new ground been ready in time for August, the Plymouth fixture would have been both the last ever League game at Feethams and final evening match.
But the club have admitted the 25,000 all-seater stadium is not likely to be ready at the start of next season.
