STUDENT musicians will take a bow alongside one of the world's best fiddlers at an international music festival tomorrow.
The group of first year students, who are taking degrees in folk and traditional music at Newcastle University, will be taking to the stage of Edinburgh's 900-seat Queen's theatre, playing alongside internationally-acclaimed Shetland fiddler Catriona Macdonald, in the third concert of the Shetland Sessions series.
For many members of the fiddle group, it will be their first taste of performing at a major venue.
They will play alongside some of the musicians who have inspired them - among them David Milligan, Conrad Ivitsky and James Macintosh of Shooglenifty, and Swedish fiddler Carina Normansson.
The folk degree was launched with the promise that students would have the chance to study and play with professional folk musicians.
The Shetland Sessions are designed to showcase Shetland music to a wide audience.
