A GREEN charity is helping villagers create a little haven for wildlife near their community centre.

Tantobie Community Centre, Stanley, called on the expertise of the Delves Lane-based Acorn Trust to help plant a hedge near the building. At the weekend trust volunteers joined residents in planting native species that will provide a haven for birds and other wildlife.

The trust also helped the community to get a grant from Whitbread Action Earth for the project.

Acorn Trust volunteers visited Caribees Wood at Delves Lane on Wednesday to carry out improvements, again funded by Whitbread Action Earth. For further details about the trust and its projects and opportunities to volunteer call (01207) 582600.
