KEVIN Henderson got back on the goal trail yesterday with a gee-up from Colin West.

Henderson netted 19 times for Hartlepool last season, but has just a single strike to his name this season in a campaign wrecked by injury.

Henderson returned to action last month after almost three months on the sidelines after knee surgery and was left out of the 16 on duty against Lincoln last weekend.

He hit two in Pool's reserves 4-1 win over Kidderminster - new boy Eifion Williams was also on target - but reserve coach and assistant manager West knows there is more to come from the front runner.

"Kevin scored two and could have had three with a bit more composure,'' said West.

"He had two great finishes to get goals, he could have had three but typical of Kev he got himself into a great position and then snatched at it.

"His second goal was everything we have been talking about with him.

"He got the ball down and seemed to stop - so did everyone else - and take his time, let the ball bounce and struck a great shot.

"He needs to show a bit more composure up there and Jermaine Easter is very similar in that respect.

"They get into good positions, but then it's about having the time and composure to finish.''

Williams netted his first goal for Pool after his £30,000 move from Torquay last week and West added: "The two lads up front held the ball up quite well.

"He needs more games because he hasn't had many starts this season and that's why he played. It is a little difficult for him because he is still settling in and doesn't really know the lads or at least how they play, but he took his goal excellently.''

Skipper Micky Barron has been receiving treatment all week on a foot injury, but should be fit for Saturday's trip to Rochdale, while Jon Bass made a successful return from a niggling groin injury yesterday with a 70-minute appearance.

l Motor racing tycoon John Batchelor is expected to be named as the new owner of Third Division York City in the next 48 hours.

Batchelor, who is due at Silverstone today for testing of his B&Q Honda Integra Racing Team, is hoping a deal can go through ahead of Saturday's home match with Darlington at Bootham Crescent. The takeover bid has been delayed by red tape but the last few details now appear to have been sorted out.

A club spokesman said: ''The fact that there are so many things coming together has delayed the takeover bid.''

Birmingham City have completed the permanent signing of utility player Tom Williams from Second Division Peterborough for an undisclosed fee.

It is believed the deal could be worth up to £1m when including additional payments depending on appearances.
