YOUNGSTERS from Thirsk School have been celebrating victory at the under 13 girls area schools hockey rally.
PE teacher Kerry Robinson was full of praise for the girls' dedication after playing several games in quick succession to lift the school's first major trophy for some time.
The rally took place at Richmond school and Thirsk began the day with a 4-0 win against Easingwold and an 8-0 success over Bedale.
With the attack and midfield working well together, the team created many scoring opportunities as they continued their winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Allertonshire.
Thirsk then had a real battle against Queen Mary's, with both teams displaying a high standard of hockey. Thirsk took the lead, only for Queen Mary's to equalise in the last few minutes.
The Thirsk defence was then tested in a 0-0 draw with Richmond, but produced a strong performance to keep their opponents at bay. They completed the day with a 2-0 win over Stokesley.
Ms Robinson said: "Throughout the day all the girls showed excellent commitment and put in 100pc effort until the very end."
Goals were scored by captain Ruth Graham, Rochelle Petty, Emily Wright, Laura Hunt and Becky Hartley. Alice Turner made some good saves in goal, only conceding two goals.
They were joined in a fine team effort by Kate Fothergill, Jade Lawson and Katie Cairns.
Meanwhile, Ruth Graham is also celebrating selection for the North Yorkshire County Under 14 team.
The midfield player, who lives at Topcliffe and also plays for Thirsk Ladies, will take part in her first county tournament on March 24 at Leeds Metropolitan University.
Ms Robinson said: "Ruth really is a first class player and I am sure she will go far."
