POLICE have issued a warning after two youths posing as smoke detector engineers tried to trick their way into the home of a 95-year-old woman.
But the pair, who claimed to represent North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, failed to con the woman and fled when she demanded identification from them.
The teenagers are operating their scam in the Sinnington area and have been driving a red Ford Transit van
Inspector Dave Fortune, of North Yorkshire Police, told residents: "Do not allow anyone access to your home if you are not satisfied with the authenticity of their identity.
"Do not hesitate to ask for identification - if they are bona fide, they will understand the need for caution."
