A lacklustre Darlington display contributed to a poor match as Quakers lost 2-0 to York City on Saturday.
It was the home sides biggest league win since September but more alarming for Tommy Taylor's side was that Darlington have now failed to win in their last nine games.
Furthermore Halifax's victory against Cheltenham means the bottom side are now 11 points behind Quakers.
Neither side did enough to win the game and City certainly did not merit their two goal advantage.
However, it was the Minstermen who took two of their few chances against a Darlington side who struggled to create any.
Second half strikes from Mike Basham (55) and Michael Proctor (65) secured the points for City, who are now just two points behind Quakers.
