HARTLEPOOL UNITED failed to collect the win they needed to lift their play-off hopes, but returned from Rochdale with a point in a goalless draw that keeps their faint ambitions alive.
Gordon Watson went closest for Pool when he struck the post from six yards after Paul Smith's teasing cross found the hit man at the back post.
Rochdale also hit a post through substitute Steve Jones, but clear chances were few and far between as the sides cancelled each other out.
