SOUTH Tyneside Council has appointed a new chief executive, it has been announced.
Irene Lucas, 48, who is director of contracting services with Sunderland City Council, accepted the appointment following an intensive two-day interview process.
Council leader Paul Waggott said: "Irene Lucas was the unanimous choice of the appointment panel."
Ms Lucas has worked in local government for 25 years in a range of posts, including that of assistant chief executive with Sunderland City Council.
