Counterfeit clothing parties
A woman sold fake designer goods, bearing counterfeit labels of popular brands, at clothing parties, Durham Crown Court heard. Police and trading standards officers recovered 550 items, mainly T-shirts and track-suits, with counterfeit labels, from Caroline Elliott's home in Hylton Road, Pennywell, Sunderland. She admitted buying them from market stalls from Chester-le-Street to Leeds to sell at clothing parties to make pin money. Elliott, 34, who admitted ten specimen charges relating to the sale of goods breaching trademark regulations, was ordered to perform 120-hours' community punishment.
ACCORDION CLUB: Derwentside Accordion Club will celebrate its 25th year when its new season starts on Thursday, March 28. The venue that night will be Castleside Workmens Club at Castleside, near Consett. The first guest artist will be accordionist Steve Roxton. The evening starts at 7.30pm. Admission is £1.50 with free entry for musicians with their own instruments, who are willing to play.
TUTTI FRUTTI: A children's show for the Easter holidays will be performed at Dipton Community Centre by professional touring group Tutti Frutti. The show is called Humpty Goes Splatt and it will be performed on Wednesday, March 27 at 2pm. Tickets cost £1.50 for adults (£1 for unwaged) and 50p for children and OAPs. VINTAGE BOND: An extensive collection of promotional posters from James Bond movies is to go on show at Washington Arts Centre. More than 50 of the original posters from 007 films, can be viewed at the North Biddick Farm centre from March 22 to May 3, on the run up to the release of the next Bond blockbuster.
LETS SALSA!: Dance classes with a Latin feel are being held at the Chester-le-Street Community Centre. The Newcastle Bank centre stages Salsa sessions on Wednesdays, from 3.15pm to 4.15pm, and Mondays, from 6pm to 7pm, starting in the first week of April. Details are available on 0191-388 4752.
EDUCATION EVENT: A partnership involving four Durham secondary schools, New College Durham, East Durham and Houghall Community College, and Durham University is organising an Aim Higher event at New College, on April 12. Durham City first year A-level students are invited to go along and find out more about university life.
