FOLLOWING the letter of the law is proving to be the ideal career route for five County Durham apprentices.
Company bosses at Chester-le-Street solicitors and estate agents, Gordon Brown Associates, have been so impressed with the young people they took on as trainees that they have offered them permanent jobs.
The firm, which has branches in Stanley and Low Fell, took on the five as modern apprentices through the Learning and Skills Council, County Durham.
Michael Wheatley, 18, from Stanley, has progressed from post room assistant to junior cashier.
Other successful apprentices include 18-year-old Laura Cave, from Langley Park, who is now aiming to become a legal secretary.
Tina Pratt, 22, from Sacriston, has just been promoted to the position of completions clerk, Susan Ord, 23, from Eighton Banks, is now a legal secretary, and Gemma Clark, 18, from Chester-le-Street, is completing a legal secretary's course while working in administration.
Eileen Wignall, practice manager for Gordon Brown Associates, said: "As a company we attach a great deal of importance to training and find a lot of youngsters like the idea of work-based learning."
