AN author is hoping for help with research into the history on the Wensleydale railway line.

Tony Eaton is planning a book on the branch line which once linked Northallerton with Hawes - parts of which are due to reopen later this year.

However, to add colour to the project, he is hoping to speak to as many people as possible who either worked on the trains, at the stations or who remember seeing the engines roll by every day.

"I really need anecdotes about life on or around the railway,'' he said.

"Of course, they are likely to come from people who perhaps drove the trains or worked the signal boxes, but I'm hoping they will be able to tell me a lot more than simply what they did at work.''

Mr Eaton also hopes to borrow pictures or documents linked to the old line which can be used in his book.

He has promised that anything loaned to the project will be copied and returned as quickly as possible.

Anyone who would like to help can contact Mr Eaton by telephoning (01609) 774439.
