A sensational penalty miss from Alan Shearer in the third minute of injury time ensured Ipswich Town left St James' Park with a point on Saturday.
Newcastle, who twice came from behind, were handed the opportunity to claim an undeserved three points after Clarence Acuna had been pushed to the floor by Town defender John McGreal.
Ipswich took the lead in the 50th minute when Macus Bent beat the offside trap and placed his shot through the legs of Shay Given.
Ten minutes later Laurent Robert curled a superb equaliser but Ipswich responded with another Bent strike after some comical Newcastle defending.
With two minutes remaining Shearer headed home a Robert cross to earn a share of the spoils.
