YOUNG people from all over the North will travel to Teesside next week for a festival of chemistry.
On Wednesday, pupils from schools all over Teesside, Durham and Cumbria will gather at the University of Durham, Stockton campus, to take part in the Salters' Festival of Chemistry.
The festival has been organised by Teesside Chemical Initiative and is designed to capture the fun of chemistry.
Fourteen schools will take part in the event, and each is represented by a team of 11 to 13-year-olds.
During the morning the teams will take part in a practical activity, judged by people from industry and education.
In the afternoon teams stage a chemical "egg race", putting their practical chemistry skills to the test, followed by a demonstration of colour chemistry.
Successful schools will receive cash prizes if their teams win
