A PHONE line offering comprehensive childcare information is launched in County Durham today.
Working parents across the county will be able to access a wealth of childcare information by calling the local rate number.
Set up by Durham County Council, it is the latest move in an ongoing programme to make the information databases more accessible to residents.
To date, childcare inquiries to the Durham County Childcare Information Service (CIS) have been between 300 and 400 a month.
With a single dedicated point of contact, it is hoped that even more parents and carers will get in touch.
CIS manager Alison Gargett said: "Our database is a valuable source of information on all childcare and nursery education facilities, including schools, throughout the county. We're aiming to make the CIS a focal point both for parents looking for childcare and providers offering good quality care."
Those making inquiries will be sent information packages based on their individual needs.
The phone line will be open from 9am to 4.30pm, Mondays to Thursdays, and 9am to 4pm on Fridays.
People interested in pursuing a career in childcare, as a childminder or nursery worker are also invited to call to receive information on applying for training grants and help with setting up a business.
Ms Gargett said: "As more parents go out to work, increasing numbers of childcare places are needed.
"We can offer the opportunity for parents to find good quality care while introducing providers to parents."
The new number is 0845 602 4468.
