JUBILEE celebrations will be held at Her Majesty's pleasure when prisoners mark the Queen's big day.

More then 100 women inmates at Durham Prison will stage a carnival to celebrate the royal anniversary.

With prisoners from France, Holland, Latin America and the West Indies, bosses have cleared the way for a massive international party inside the prison, which is aimed at boosting cultural understanding.

Drew Agnew, deputy governor of Britain's only high-security jail for women, said: "It will be a carnival and cultural day.

"The women will be able to cook their national dishes. We have also ordered some material so the foreign inmates can make some form of national dress.

"As a high-security prison, there are limits about what will happen but we hope it will be a good day.

"There is a competition for the best dress. The inmates came up with the idea and it should be a good change to the normal routine."

Prison bosses are also hoping a gospel choir will provide the music for the June 3 celebrations, which is due to take place in the prison's exercise yard.

Durham prison holds some of Britain's most notorious inmates, such as murderer Rosemary West. Moors Murderer Myra Hindley has also served time there.

The 600 inmates in the male section of the prison have yet to decide if they will be marking the occasion.
