USING the tried and tested formula of backing "horses for courses", Just Lizzie has a great chance of following up her recent track and trip victory at Ayr.
After drawing a blank since she won at Wetherby in April, Just Lizzie (3.20) finally got her head back in front at the Scottish venue under a determined drive from Nathan Horrocks on March 9.
With conditions promising to be almost identical for the £10,000 Wallacetown Handicap Hurdle, a follow up success is well within the remit of the nine-year-old mare.
In the opening Whitletts Novices' Hurdle Tony McCoy flies up from Lambourn to take the ride on Patrick Haslam's Perchancer (2.20).
McCoy, said to be still extremely upset over the demise of Valiramix in the Champion Hurdle, is travelling far and wide in order to break Sir Gordon Richards' record of 269 wins in a season.
He's currently on the 264 mark and if Perchancer can reproduce the level of ability he demonstrated when romping home 19 lengths clear of Preston Brook at Wetherby in November, McCoy's journey should not be in vain.
Although pulled up when last seen out at Market Rasen, Sue Smith's Southwell raider Mapleton (2.30) looks sure to be suited by a return to his favourite course, plus the correct 2-mile distance in the Halam Handicap Chase.
Best bet at Wolverhampton is David Chapman's Caterham Common (2.10), weighted to win the Littlewoods Bet Direct Handicap provided his suspect stamina holds out.
* Norman Williamson ended a frustrating week on a high as Irish raider The Bunny Boiler landed a gamble in a gruelling Marstons Pedigree Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter.
The jockey drew a blank from 16 rides at the Cheltenham Festival, and is still upset that his mount Rhinestone Cowboy was not awarded the Weatherbys Champion Bumper after being bumped by the winner Pizarro in a controversial finish.
The stewards could not intervene this time as The Bunny Boiler, backed from a morning 8-1 into 5-1, sluiced up under Williamson.
His mount has a reputation as a modest jumper and had fallen with the Thyestes Chase at his mercy at Gowran Park in January.
But Williamson hunted him round for the first two of three circuits, produced the gelding to lead at the fourth-last fence and soon bounded clear.
Though The Bunny Boiler went to his left at the last two obstacles he still had 20 lengths to spare over Mini Sensation at the line.
Scotton Green took third, with Ambleside last of four finishers as the very heavy ground took a severe toll on the 14-runner field.
* Rain forced officials at Newcastle to abandon Saturday afternoon's National Hunt meeting.
