A millennium wood will be renamed in honour of the Queen's Golden Jubilee, thanks to foot-and-mouth restrictions.
Bilton Conservation Group planned to mark the new century by planting 3,500 broadleaf trees in fields between Bilton Lane and the Nidd Gorge, at Harrogate. But as working parties were being arranged everything stopped because of the disease outbreak. Work has now been rescheduled for the autumn and what would have been named Millennium Wood will now be called Jubilee Wood.
FLIGHT PLAN: The RAF has warned people who live around the base at Linton-on-Ouse to expect a flypast on Friday. Nine Tucano aircraft will salute graduates who have successfully completed their courses at the training base, sometime between 9am and noon. Anyone who would like to watch is urged to park in the viewing area on the Linton to Aldwark road.
NOT WELCOME: Welcome Developments has been refused planning permission to create a self-contained flat by converting storage facilities at the back of a home in St Mark's Avenue, Harrogate.
BEARS WELCOME: Minskip Village Hall will welcome bears of all sizes for an Easter exhibition. As well as a parade of award-winning teddies, a children's quiz, competitions and refreshments are on the programme on Saturday, March 30, and Sunday, March 31. Admission for adults is £1, with children under 12 admitted free.
STONE WALLING: A residential course on the art of dry-stone walling will be held this weekend in Ripon by a team from the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers. For details call (01748) 811970.
GALLOWFIELDS FULL: All five units at Jackson Court, part of a new complex on Richmond's Gallowfields trading estate, are occupied. The news came well ahead of the 40 per cent occupancy target set by site manager Richmondshire District Council for the end of 2002.
BANK BOSS: Angela Horner has been appointed manager of the HSBC Bank in Richmond. The 34-year-old was manager of the Northallerton branch and has also worked in Knaresborough and York.
