A bus driver was left shaken but unhurt after a shot was fired at his double-decker as he drove through York.
Police suspect the weapon, which cracked windows at the front of the First York vehicle, may have been a shotgun, although the driver did not see who fired the shot.
Detectives are keen to trace a group of youths who were walking along Huntington Road near the junction with Bell Farm Avenue at around 11pm on Saturday.
They are also hoping a group of elderly people standing outside a nearby pub may also be able to help with the inquiry.
"Firing a deadly weapon is always a matter for concern but firing it at moving traffic defies belief," said a spokesman for North Yorkshire police today.
