Hospice hunts for treasure
An Easter treasure hunt is being staged as part of a spring fair in the grounds of St Cuthbert's Hospice, Durham. Sunday's event also features children's fancy dress for the under-eights, a painted egg competition, birds of prey, small furry animals, a bouncy castle and children's entertainer. Stalls include plants, cakes, crafts, tombola and many others. The fair, at the hospice in Park House Road, Merryoaks, runs from 2pm to 4.30pm. Admission is £2 per person, including a cream egg for children and cream tea for adults. Proceeds will be used to provide palliative care for people suffering life-threatening illnesses.
ENTERPRISE AWARENESS: A community enterprise awareness session, organised by Community Enterprise Direct, is taking place on Wednesday, March 27 from 10.30am to 11.30am at Durham Indoor Bowling Club, on Abbey Road. Groups and individuals who are interested in hearing how the group can provide a caf and child care, and meet other community needs are urged to attend.
YOGA COURSES: Two eight-week yoga courses are starting next month at Chester-le-Street Community Centre. They will run on Mondays from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, starting on April 8, and Tuesdays from 10.30am to 12.30pm, from April 9. For details, ring 0191-388 4752.
DISCO NIGHT: Disco lovers are invited to an evening of music by Abba Gold, Boney M and Bucks Fizz at the Sunderland Empire Theatre, on Saturday, April 13 at 7.30pm. For more details or to book tickets, ring the box office on 0191-5142517.
ACADEMY'S SUCCESS: East Durham and Houghall Community College's football academy has won through to the semi-finals of the British National Colleges Cup after competing in the quarter-finals against Dearne Valley College, in Rotherham. The team will now play Berkshire College in Reading tomorrow.
HEALING SESSION: The National Federation of Spiritual Healers is holding a healing session on Saturday, from 1.30pm to 4pm, at Shakespeare Hall, North Road, Durham. Sessions are held on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.
SIXTIES SHOW: Leah Bell and company will perform their Fabulous 50s and Swinging 60s show at the Ramside Hall Hotel, in Durham, on Friday, April 19. All proceeds will go to the St Cuthbert's Hospice Capital Appeal to build a ten-bedded in-patient unit. Tickets cost £30 including dinner, the show, and a disco until 1am. To book call 0191-386 1170
