PUPILS and staff at a Teesside primary school were learning about food yesterday at the start of a healthy eating week.

Hardwick Primary School, in Stockton, is holding events to get the healthy eating message across all week. The children are being encouraged to make healthy choices at lunchtime, and there will be a competition with fruit prizes to be won.

Water coolers have been installed in classrooms throughout the school and children can buy fruit every lunchtime.

The school can also boast that it is the very first primary school in Stockton to have a new breakfast club, which is proving popular with both parents and children. Teacher Karen Abbot said: "I have spent a lot of time making sure our healthy eating week will be a week to remember."

The event is being sponsored by Asda in Portrack Lane.
