YOUNG performers from across the region will be appearing at a star-studded concert in the Royal Albert Hall.

About 40 members of Stagecoach Theatre Arts, in Darlington, Guisborough and Yarm, will be joining music celebrities for the Reaching Out For Africa charity concert.

Sir Cliff Richard and singer Gabrielle are among the line- up for the performance on June 4.

Stagecoach is a local breeding ground for young talent - Pop Idol finalist Zoe Birkett and Billy Elliot star Jamie Bell both trained there.

More than 1,500 young people from Stagecoach schools will perform alongside a 3,000-member gospel choir at the charity performance.

Proceeds from the concert will go towards building clinics in Africa, with an emphasis on prevention of HIV, Aids and malaria.

The Stagecoach Darlington branch will also be appearing at the Positive Young People Awards ceremony at the Civic Theatre, Darlington, on Monday.

The awards, supported by The Northern Echo, aim to celebrate the achievements of young people in Darlington.
