RADAR (3.00) is going the right way to record his second success of the month at Sedgefield this afternoon.
Two weeks ago the seven-year-old turned out over course and distance and, viewing from the stands, appeared to be treading water with a half-mile to travel.
But the experienced amateur Clive Storey was not in the mood for defeat and somehow conjured up a turbo-charged final furlong sprint from Radar.
The net result of Storey's efforts from the saddle was a 13-length victory for the partnership, strongly fancied to follow-up in the Middlesborough Novices' Chase.
The Selling Handicap Hurdle boasts by far the biggest field of the day, with 16 runners facing the starter. Sadly it's a case of quantity rather than quality, and to my way of thinking the top-weight No Gimmicks is the most likely winner.
Jimmy FitzGerald's ten-year-old is admittedly no world-beater, but the Official Handicapper reckons No Gimmicks is the best horse in the race and for pure consistency it is hard to find fault in that theory.
Tony Dobbin could easily add to yesterday's Ayr double provided Undeniable (2.30) returns to the form he showed when scoring on his debut at Newcastle in January.
Dobbin might well also be in business on Howard Johnson's Teme Valley (4.30), who has shown a liking for the track and trip in the past. Hereford-bound Dellone (3.40) was bang out of luck at Folkestone recently, crashing to the ground at the final flight when still within sniffing distance of the eventual victor, Just A Touch.
Dellone will have to be more careful if he is to claim the Manny Bernstein Hurdle, but if the progressive gelding does stay on his feet the £5,000 contest is there for the taking. Don't worry about More Rush's (4.10) 746-day absence, Jonjo O'Neill is a past-master at getting his forces fit on the home gallops
