RESIDENTS are getting into the festive spirit as plans get under way for a town's gala and carnival.
Every year, crowds visit Shildon for the carnival which centres around the town's Hackworth Park.
Organisers are planning a range of activities for the gala, which takes place on Saturday, May 25.
A carnival procession will see decorated wagons and people in fancy dress parade through the town, leading visitors to the park venue.
Once there, people can enjoy numerous display stands and stalls along with entertainment in the centre ring.
Arena events include a birds of prey exhibition by Prince Bishop Falconry, music by Teesdale Pipes and Drums, a dog agility display and football.
Maureen Blenkarne, of the Shildon Carnival working party, said: "There will be a range of entertainment suitable for all the family both the young and the young at heart.
"Sites are available for displays or sales of work by local voluntary and community groups and trade stalls.''
Anyone wanting to book a stall or take part in the carnival procession is asked to contact the Shildon Centre on (01388) 777948.
