A STATELY home shakes off the last of the cobwebs accumulated over years of neglect when its launches its support network next month.
Kiplin Hall was built in 1620 by George Calvert - Secretary of State to James I and founder of the state of Maryland in America - but faced demolition after years of dilapidation almost three centuries later.
However, the building was saved from the bulldozers in the 1950s and, following a refurbishment programme over the past three years, is on the brink of a new era as a visitor attraction. But, if the work is to reap its true reward, the local community needs to rally round - and, to this end, The Friends of Kiplin Hall will be launched on Monday, April 8.
Membership will include unlimited free admission during the open season, a newsletter, invitations to events and the chance to learn more about the house and its grounds.
In return, it is hoped Friends will help with guided tours, act as stewards, help in the tea room or work on the archives.
Annual membership fees have been set at £12 for adults and £10 for senior citizens. For more details on joining call (01748) 818178.
