WOODCARVINGS in Ripon Cathedral are being used as a national teaching aid for schools through the Internet.
The misericords - hinged seats in the choir stalls - are featured in an interactive exploration of seasonal themes of Lent, Easter and sustainable development.
The Internet project, spearheaded by a college and Reep, the Religious Education and Environment Programme, has worked alongside schools visit co-ordinator at the cathedral Dorothy Taylor and her husband Maurice, a member of the volunteer education team.
They have provided photographs of the historic features. The website takes eight different creatures from the misericords, telling some of the legends linked with them.
Mr Taylor said: "As well as background to a legend of the Green Man and information about the misericords there is also the Woodwose Challenge, an interactive game with prizes - for those who get ten out of ten."
