AN A-level student who decided to resit her philosophy examination to get a better mark came close to perfection second time around.
Samantha Stokell retook her paper at Carmel RC Technology College, in Darlington, and was delighted to receive her 99 per cent result, only months after receiving a D grade.
Her achievement was closely followed by Lucy Flanagan, who managed a 98 per cent mark in her A-level psychology, a subject which also proved fruitful for Robert Pattison, who overcame learning difficulties to achieve an A grade.
Samantha's philosophy tutor, Tim Madeley, said: "Sam is the most hardworking student that I have taught in ten years of teaching, and I am delighted with her achievement.
"It is an incredible mark, as a subject like philosophy deals with the most complicated and mind-blowing logical arguments that have been raging over the past 3,000 years."
James O'Neill, headteacher at the college, said: "We are delighted with all of the results we have just received. The students have worked diligently to obtain their just rewards and have been well supported by staff."
