THE hard work of parents and fundraisers who have contributed to a primary school's extension project has been formally blessed.
Bishop Ambrose Griffiths from the Hexham and Newcastle Diocese visited St Chad's RCVA Primary School in Witton Park, near Bishop Auckland, to bless the £140,000 extension which houses an extra classroom and new offices.
During his visit the Bishop met parents, school staff and local business people who contributed to the project.
Most of the money for the extension was provided through a grant from the Hexham and Newcastle Diocese, but 15 per cent of the money had to be raised by the school.
Headteacher Catherine Holborn said the support from parents for a school with 92 pupils was remarkable.
She said: "Local businesses donated money but the majority has come from parent fundraising. The support has been amazing."
