A residential home for children with special needs and disabilities was opened yesterday.
Lyndhurst, in the Beacon Lough area of Gateshead, has been refurbished as part of Gateshead Borough Council's commitment to provide appropriate residential services for children and young people with special needs.
The home will provide long-term planned residential care for up to four youngsters, aged between eight and 18 years, with complex needs and disabilities, including sensory impairment or Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
Young people using Lyndhurst will be close to their family homes, so that parents and carers can be part of their development on a daily, or regular, basis.
Gateshead council employees will work closely with young people, to ensure they gain maximum opportunities and independence, from a range of educational, health and social care schemes.
They will have their own bedroom, with decorations and soft furnishings, chosen where possible by parents and the young people.
