A project has been set up to look at ways of improving access to job opportunities for disabled people in Redcar and Cleveland.
Funded by the Redcar and Cleveland Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, it will gather information about the barriers that prevent people with a disability from accessing job opportunities and related services, in order to become more independent within the community.
The project will seek the views of local people, employers and organisations, to help build a picture of the situation and identify people's needs and aspirations.
Director Rosie Cunningham said: "This represents a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of the difficulties disabled people face in the labour market in Redcar and Cleveland."
An information-gathering event takes place at Redcar Education Development Centre on Wednesday, from 10am until 4pm.
Organised by the borough council's social services and Tees and North East Yorkshire NHS Trust, it hopes to bring together people with learning disabilities and also raise awareness of the opportunities available to them.
