A PENSIONER who was seen wandering aimlessly around fields has sparked a major search and rescue operation.
Police officers were joined by 31 members of the Cleveland Search and Rescue Team as they tried to track down the elderly man, who was wearing a bright red jacket and fluorescent yellow woolly gloves.
He was seen by a resident of Hutton Rudby, near Yarm, at about 2.45pm on Tuesday, walking around fields in the area between the village cricket club and the River Leven.
Rescuers with dogs combed about three square kilometres of fields and woodland next to the river, without any success. There are no plans to resume the hunt.
Anyone with information about the man should contact police on (01609) 783131.
