Street name proposals
Developers have put forward five suggestions for names for two new streets, comprising 93 houses, in the Cobblers Hall area of Newton Aycliffe. The suggestions are: Hallcroft Gardens, Elder Grove, Ashtree Close, Millwood Close and Pinewood Close.
MALE CHOIR: Middleton-in-Teesdale Male Voice Choir will perform at the Morritt Arms Hotel, Greta Bridge, on Friday, April 5, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5, to include pie and peas supper. Proceeds will go to the Brignall Church Restoration Appeal. Call (01833) 638034 for details.
NEW LIGHTS: Lights have been installed at the garage area of Watson Road, Newton Aycliffe, at a cost of £3,000, under Sedgefield Borough Council's tidy estates and community involvement initiative.
WILDLIFE GROUP: The Sedgefield Village Wildlife Group will hold its annual meeting in Sedgefield Parish Hall next Thursday, at 7.45pm. A talk will be given by Jonathan Elmer, Sedgefield borough countryside officer.
COMPUTER SESSIONS: Free computer taster sessions take place at The Pioneering Care Centre, Newton Aycliffe, next Tuesday. Sessions start at 10am, 11.30am and 1.30pm, and last 90 minutes. For details contact Liz Butler on (01325) 321234.
FOLK NIGHT: A folk night in aid of the Witham Hall appeal is being held tomorrow, at 7.30pm, in the hall in Barnard Castle. For details call (01833) 631107.
FAMILY DISCO: Toft Hill and Etherley Community Centre is hosting an Easter family disco tomorrow, from 7pm to 10pm. Proceeds will go towards a carnival for the Queen's golden jubilee.
DALES WALK: A four-mile walk around the Gaunless Valley will be held on Saturday, at 2pm. Meet at the visitor centre, near the Stag's Head, in Butterknowle.
PARTY TIME: An under-16s disco and family night is being held at the Stainton Grove Community Centre tomorrow, at 6.30pm, in aid of the community association. For details call (01833) 631906.
SNAPPERS MEET: Teesdale Photographic Society meets in the Masonic Hall, Middleton-in-Teesdale, next Wednesday, at 7.30pm. The meeting is open to visitors.
TABLE SALE: A table-top sale in St Mary's Parish Hall, Newgate, Barnard Castle, on Saturday, March 30, will run from 9.30am to 3.30pm.
TABLE SALE: A procession from Sedgefield Parish Hall to St Edmund's Church, starting at 10.30am, for a 10.45am Eucharist on Sunday marks the start of Holy Week celebrations. On Maundy Thursday, at 7.30pm, the Eucharist of the Last Supper will be followed by silent prayer until 10pm. On Good Friday a Procession of Witness will start at St Edmund's at 10am and visit the Roman Catholic and Methodist churches.The Reverend Bill Broad will be preacher at 11.30am at St Catherine's Church, and at 2pm at a service at St Edmund's.
