THE issues surrounding why bored youngsters are wreaking havoc in an east Cleveland village are to be addressed, thanks to the appointment of an outreach worker.
The worker has not been identified yet, but Brotton Community Forum has been given almost £500 from the Redcar and Cleveland Community Safety Partnership to fund the work.
The village has been overrun by youths causing anti-social behaviour problems and fed up villagers have only got as far as learning that the children are bored when they tried to find out why they were misbehaving.
The outreach worker will be involved in talking to the youngsters and getting to know them and finding out what their problems are and why they behave the way they do.
A common theory in the village is that there is nowhere suitable for the children to go where they will be safe, occupied with activities they want to enjoy and keeping out of trouble.
The outreach worker has 14 sessions to get to the bottom of the problem and must then report back to the forum so that the way forward for a better understanding between old and young in the village can be reached.
It is anticipated that the project will start at the beginning of April.
