Maths students earn top marks
COLLEGE students are celebrating after achieving 100 per cent marks in a pure mathematics AS module.
The 11 pupils, from Prior Pursglove College, Guisborough, sat the exam in January, six months earlier than usual. The students were Daniel Martinez, Luke Johnson, Benjamin Thorpe, Gareth Clay, Stephen Harrap, Geoffrey Lam, Caroline Taylor, Ben Tyreman, Clare Hart, Helen Smith and Katie Shields. Patricia Prince, their teacher, said: "The whole group is to be congratulated on their hard work and effort."
MONEY RAISED: The Take Heart Support Group, which offers help to recovering cardiac patients, has had a boost to its coffers. A concert by the Teesside Apollo Male Voice Choir at St Mary's Cathedral, Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough, raised more than £600. Committee member Maggie Welford, from the Coulby Newham branch, raised more than £50 through a quiz.
HISTORIC WALK: A walk tracing the medieval village of Stainsby, Middlesbrough, will take place on Sunday. The guided walk, led by Robin Daniels of Tees Archaeology, begins at 10.30am, at the Hemlington Recreational Centre car park, Cass House Road. Walkers are advised to wear suitable clothing and take a packed lunch.

Annual meeting: The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) centre at South Bank, Teesside, will be holding its annual meeting on Saturday at the centre, in Wallis Road, Skippers Lane Industrial Estate, at 12.30pm. The centre is used by MS sufferers from across the region.
COFFEE MORNING: The Inner Wheel Club of Saltburn is holding a coffee morning at the Methodist Hall, Milton Street, from 10am until noon on Saturday, with a cake stall and a raffle.
GARAGE FIRE: Vandals set fire to rubbish after breaking into a Middlesbrough garage, on Tuesday. Firefighters put out the blaze in Beadon Grove, Whinney Banks.
SPRING FAIR: St Margaret's Church Centre, Saltburn Road, Brotton, is the venue for a spring fair on Saturday, from 10am until 2pm.
