A 14-YEAR-OLD County Durham boy with cerebral palsy has set his sights on the Paralympics after claiming a second national title.
Lee Maddison, from St Catherine Close, Fishburn, surpassed all expectations by winning the CP Sports National Boccia Championships in Sheffield last weekend.
Boccia is a sport similar to bowls, where wheelchair competitors have to give instructions on the height and direction of a ramp which the ball is rolled down.
Lee, who attends the Percy Hedley School in Newcastle, won all six of his matches to take the title at the Ponds Forge arena.
His mother, Jill, said: "His first game was played against a girl from his school and it was very tight, but he won it.
"We thought he might win just the one game, but he won six out of six and it just blew us all away. There were tears and everyone was absolutely overjoyed for him."
The victory means Lee has qualified for the British championships, competing against the best from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, in Liverpool next month.
Lee, who won the junior title at last year's Disability Sport England championships, could now go on to even bigger and better success.
Mrs Maddison said: "The girl who ramps for him really fancies his chances in Liverpool.
"My aim for Lee is for him to go to the Paralympics because it would be nice if he could represent his country."
