Warning on building work
Changes to building regulations mean local authority building control departments must be informed of all new building work, Darlington Borough Council has warned.
Boilers, hot water cylinders and windows can only be installed after completing a building regulations application form.
COFFEE MORNING: The Friends of Darlington Memorial Hospital are holding a coffee morning for their knitters at the hospital's Hollies Restaurant on April 9, at 10am.
MARKET CLOSED: The Darlington Women's Institute market will be closed on Tuesday, April 2, but will reopen on April 9 in the Friends Meeting House, Skinnergate, from 10am to 11.30am.
TRAFFIC DELAY: Traffic lights will be in operation in Allan Street, Darlington, for three days, starting from Monday.
LAVATORY WORK: Public lavatories beneath the town clock, in Darlington town centre, will be closed until Wednesday for refurbishments.
HOUSE BURGLED: A house in Highfield Road, Darlington, was burgled while the occupant was out, between 1.30pm on Tuesday and 8.45am the following morning.
HEALTHY EATING: Nursery children in Darlington have been serving up a treat to their friends as part of a healthy eating programme. Children at the Just Learning Nursery, in Newton Lane, joined their cook, Sharon Johnson, in the kitchen this week to prepare a fruit salad for lunch. The aim of the visit was to get the children to think about different foods and nutrition.
BAG CASH: Pupils and staff at Hurworth Comprehensive School, Darlington, raised £258 towards the school's bid for specialist mathematics and computing status by packing bags at Morrisons, in Neasham Road.
HOMES SCHEME: Plans for two semi-detached, three-bedroom houses on land adjacent to 3 The Green, Bishopton, have been received by Darlington Borough Council.
FARMERS MARKET: Sites are available at a farmers market to be held at Whitworth Hall Country Estate, Spennymoor, on July 13 and 14, from 10am to 5pm. For details contact (01325) 313924.
CHARITY NIGHT: A charity night at Newton Aycliffe Working Men's Club on Wednesday raised £1,250 for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
WI TALK: The next meeting of Gainford Women's Institute will be held on Wednesday, at 7.30pm, in the village hall, when Norman Kelly will give a talk called The Old Grocery Shop.
MUSIC CLASSES: Classes in guitar, keyboard, drums and disc jockeying for adults and children are on offer at Greenfield Community and Arts Centre, Newton Aycliffe.
