A PAIR of County Durham hairdressers proved they have a good head for business by combining their styling skills.
Just over a year ago, Jan Barras extended her home next to the Ushaw Moor Sports Centre, near Durham City, and launched Vail Hairdressing. Looking to branch out, she teamed up with beauty therapist Gemma Chatterton, who has set up her own business, Inner Glow, next door.
Jan had ran her mobile hairdressing business for 15 years. She said: "I decided I wanted to do more hairdressing and less driving.
"Once I had the salon my clients kept asking for advice on beauty treatments, so it was obvious there was a business opportunity there. It was really just a matter of finding someone I wanted to team up with."
Gemma said: "We are both Ushaw Moor born and bred and have known each other for a long time, so I was really pleased when Jan invited me to set up my business next to hers.
"Our clients like the idea of a one stop shop for hairdressing and beauty therapy and because we work next to each other we can offer package deals to our customers."
