A JUDGE yesterday began summing up the evidence in the case of a man who admits killing his girlfriend's baby.
Richard Baxter, 30, who is on trial for murder, is alleged to have shaken to death Paula Moore's 14-month-old baby, Jake.
The child, who died from brain damage, had been bitten on both cheeks and had 27 separate injuries, the court has heard.
Baxter called an ambulance to their home, in Middlesbrough, last August. Jake died in hospital 16 hours later.
Baxter told police that he had suffered a blackout and he did not know what he was doing.
He claimed that Jake fell several times but he admitted biting the baby's cheeks until they bled, saying that his mother used to do it to him.
Baxter of Hodges House, Central Mews, Middlesbrough, denies murdering Jake on August 29, but has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
The jury was sent home until Monday, when it will retire to consider its verdict.
