A CHARITY concert is being organised by two musical brothers to raise money for children at a hospital's limbs unit.
Graeme and Mike Ross, two-thirds of Durham band Taller Than, have been spurred on to help the cause after their mother, Amelia, had to have a leg amputated.
Mrs Ross, a Durham businesswoman, suffered a blood clot, causing thrombosis and resulting in the amputation.
During her stay at the limb centre of Newcastle's Freeman Hospital, the brothers discovered that youngsters were taking longer to recover from operations because of the lack of a children's gym.
So Graeme, who plays bass guitar in the band, is organising a charity show to help rectify that problem.
He took up the challenge when his mother, who runs beauty therapy salon Star Clinic, suggested the idea.
Graeme said: "It is all my mother's idea. She was rushed into hospital and four months later had her leg amputated.
"As soon as she started getting better, she started thinking, 'we have got to raise some money to help these kids out'.
"It is one of those human tragedies. It is absolutely heartbreaking, it really is. Until you are involved in it, you can't really appreciate the horror."
The event will take place at the Mill House, near Washington, Wearside, on May 4, when Durham band Mother Sugar will join Taller Than, along with Carma, from Washington.
Tickets, costing £5, are available from the Mill House, or Star Clinic.
