YOUNGSTERS have been putting the finishing touches to a school project.
The pupils from Harewood Junior School, in Thornaby, have spent time designing flower beds for a new play area in the town's Littleboy Park and on Wednesday they planted shrubs at the site during the opening ceremony.
The ceremony was carried out by Andrea Graham, whose daughter, Shannon, died from injuries she received while playing in the park. The play area has since had a £105,000 upgrade.
Councillor Steve Walmsley, Stockton Borough Council's cabinet member for south borough, said: "The pupils have worked very hard on this project and it will be lovely for them to see the plants being put in place at the park."
The project was made possible by the Mandale Association of Residents committee, which secured funding through the Asda store, in Thornaby.
