CHILDREN at a Darlington school held a non-uniform day yesterday to help a former pupil with her gap year project.
Reid Street Primary School joined the fundraising effort for Chloe Campbell, who is trying to raise £1,700 to work in India.
Chloe, 17, who is studying at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, travels to Delhi in August to work in orphanages and day care centres for children with cerebral palsy, and to teach English.
Reid Street Primary School's deputy headteacher, Wendy Aitken, said: "We were approached by Chloe's family and we felt that we wanted to support them.
"We have talked to the pupils about under-privileged children, so they all understand why she is going."
Pupils have raised £260, but the school has pledged to give Chloe £300.
Anyone wishing to contribute to Chloe's fundraising efforts can make a donation at Abbey National, 43 High Row, Darlington, to the Chloe Campbell ISA Fund.
