A CITY'S mayor will be leading by example when he helps guide dog owners and blind and partially-sighted people cope with unexpected hazards today.
Sunderland mayor Councillor Ken Murray will be asking motorists to park considerately when leaving their vehicles alongside a footpath.
Coun Murray will accom-pany two guide dog owners, Martin and Mavis Brennan, from Sunderland, to illustrate the pavement hazards of inconsiderate parking.
He said: "This is an easy way in which we can all make a real difference to safety on the streets for guide dog owners and other visually-impaired people in our community."
Inconsiderate motorists in Sunderland City have been warned that when a new system of parking regulations is introduced - the taking over from police and traffic wardens - the number of wardens will increase and pavement parkers will be targeted
