A 75-YEAR-OLD man was left badly shaken and injured after being attacked by robbers.
The victim was just a few minutes from his home after returning from the Beamish Mary pub, at No Place, near Stanley, at about 8pm on Sunday, when he was attacked by two men.
They stopped him, pushed him against a wall, and attempted to rifle his pockets. The victim struggled but failed to fight his attackers off.
However, a male passer-by saw what was happening and shouted to the robbers to leave the pensioner alone. The pair ran off empty handed.
Police are anxious to trace the passer-by who did not stop. Anyone with information is asked to call (01207) 504204
