FORMER Lord Lieutenant of Durham David Grant has died, at the age of 80.
Businessman Mr Grant was the chairman of Darchem, Darlington, between 1963 and 1992.
He was Lord Lieutenant of the area for nine years.
In 1980, Mr Grant was awarded a CBE, which he described as the most memorable moment of his life.
He was the chairman of the governors of Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, Darlington.
Alasdair MacConachie, chairman of the Darlington Partnership, paid tribute to Mr Grant.
He said: "David was a tremendous ambassador for Darlington."
He leaves a wife, Jean, two sons and a daughter. A funeral service will be held at St Cuthbert's Church, Durham, on Saturday, at 2.30pm
