PROTESTS over an RAF training base's plans to change its flight paths have forced councillors to postpone their verdict on the matter.
Members of Hambleton District Council's cabinet had been asked for their views on changes to the circuits used by aircraft at Linton-on-Ouse.
They were told the proposals had come about because of lobbying by a noise pressure group set up by residents of Aldwark and Thorpe Underwood.
Residents affected by the noise said the situation had worsened since the propeller-driven Tucano replaced Jet Provosts as the RAF's main training aircraft in 1995. Their complaints have swayed councillors into deferring their recommendations to the RAF.
Environmental health spokesman Arthur Barker said: "There is no doubt that the change in circuits made in 1995 adversely affected both Aldwark and Thorpe Underwood.
"And following consultation it has been found that those parishes currently less affected do not want to see changes in the flight paths.
"However, before members can make their recommendations they feel they need more information from the RAF. They realise, however, that the eventual decision is not going to please everyone."
He said officers would want to discuss the options in more detail with the RAF's station commander.
