A CITY MP has given his support to a fed-up homeowner who has been plagued by yobs for the past 18 months.
York MP Hugh Bayley met the 46-year-old man at a recent surgery and pledged to investigate the possibility of greater police patrols in the Hull Road area.
Since confronting vandals on his neighbour's property, the man, who does not wish to named, has had 11 windows smashed, suffered two attempted burglaries and has been spat at in the street.
He said he had raised the problems of the area with Mr Bayley and possible solutions, including CCTV in the residential area, blocking off alleyways that provide an escape route for criminals and an increased police presence.
The man said: "Hugh Bayley said he would be in contact with the council and the police with a view to looking at measures that could be initiated to reduce crime in the area. He didn't want to get involved in individual cases - rather he was looking at the bigger picture.
"He said he meets an awful lot of people who are worried about yobbish behaviour and anti-social behaviour by under-16s. It's something that everybody is concerned about."
