BUSINESSES in the region will be urged to install measures guarding against computer hackers at a security event next week.
Stockton company Sapphire Technologies will host a breakfast seminar on Wednesday, in Newcastle, which will provide businesses with the know-how to protect their computer systems, networks and data.
Firms will also be able to gain an insight into the tricks used by hackers.
The seminar is aimed at delegates from all North-East business sectors.
Business systems remain vulnerable to cyber attacks, despite an increased security focus following the September 11 attacks on the US.
A recent survey of more than 1,000 executives worldwide found that 46 per cent did not have a formal information security policy in place and 68 per cent admitted they did not regularly check how at risk their systems were from hackers.
"Companies can no longer afford to pretend they are safe from cyber attacks," said Keith Foggon, director of security services for Sapphire.
Any business delegates wanting to attend the seminar should contact Caroline Smith on (01642) 702100.
