STRIKERS Eifion Williams and Kevin Henderson are on the verge of starting against Oxford United on Saturday after impressing for the reserves.

Both players failed to score their way into first XI, but the pair have given manager Chris Turner something to ponder after their displays in the 0-0 draw against Hull City's second string at Seaham yesterday.

Assistant manager Colin West said: "The partnership up front of Williams and Henderson again looked a threat and it is something to work on."

Whether they did enough at Seaham's ground only time will tell but Turner said before yesterday's draw: "Eifion and Kevin will come into the frame for a start (on Saturday)."

The attacking pair have been pushing top-scorer Gordon Watson and Ritchie Humphreys for their places and Pool's management team are hoping it continues.

Meanwhile, a strong Pool reserves side were unable to claim the points from a Tigers team who had goalkeeper Matty Glennon to thank for earning a point.

West said: "I'm pleased at the way the boys played and went about the game.

"Their goalkeeper has earned them a point really; he has made five or six tremendous saves. He was a very imposing presence and worked hard for his clean sheet.

"We have also kept that clean sheet which we have been looking for over recent weeks and it was not just lucky. We were superb right along the back and in midfield we bossed the game."

Glennon made impressive saves from Williams, Adam Boyd and James Coppinger.

But Pool keeper Martin Hollund also performed well and he managed to save a Rodney Rowe penalty in the seventh minute after midfielder Rob Matthews had been brought down in the box.

Pools: Hollund, Bass, Robinson, Simms, Sharp, Boyd, Coppinger, Sweeney, Williams, Henderson, Robson. Subs: Provett, Brackstone, Easter, Craddock, Peachey.
