40 years ago - Darlington boxer Richard Hodgson retains his light heavyweight title at the British Railways national championships in dramatic fashion.
Hodgson's opponent, Ray Snipe of Mexborough, suddenly collapsed during round three with Hodgson at the other side of the ring. Snipe, who had taken a hammering earlier in the fight, was carried from the ring but recovered in the dressing rooms.

A crowd of 700 pay receipts of £72 at the Millfield ground, Crook, to watch the Crook and District League Cup final between Crook Electric and Durham NEEB. A goal from Furness gave NEEB a 1-0 half-time lead. Howard Canvin equalised on 72 minutes and then with only four minutes remaining Tony Pratt scored the Electric's winner.
